About - Black Healing Centre
About us

A space built from within.

Founded in Montréal in 2022, in direct response to needs consistently expressed by Black community members.

Mission & approach

Strengthening what already exists within us.

BHC creates and sustains culturally affirming spaces where Black communities in Montréal can heal, connect, and build collective power. We cultivate environments where the resilience, creativity, and leadership within Black communities can thrive.

We understand that systemic barriers affect mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. In response, we provide accessible, community-led healing practices, leadership development, and spaces for dialogue and solidarity: resources that strengthen what already exists within the community.

Needs assessment at the Centre is ongoing and participatory. Community members shape programming through advisory circles, open forums, and compensated co-design sessions, rather than assuming priorities, we create structured opportunities for participants to articulate emerging needs.

Clinical leadership

Dr. Lisa Ndejuru

Is a psychotherapist, psychodramatist and theatre practitioner with thirty years of practice. Her work creates accessible, scalable strategies for healing in communities impacted by the violence of anti-blackness, breaking silences and repairing trust across generations. She teaches at Concordia University and the University of Ottawa, founded Omora Healing, co-founded the African Psychedelic Research and Practice Collective, and serves as a senior clinician at the Ketamine-Assisted Treatment and Research Centre in Kigali.

Over $450,000 raised across a growing network of partners. Many have returned with multi-year commitments, reflecting sustained confidence in BHC's community-rooted model.
