The Black Healing Centre presents
Black Montreal SPEAKS
Black Montreal SPEAKS is a three-part video series that aims to address mental health issues within the Black community in Montreal. Through engaging interviews, expert insights, and community conversations, this project seeks to foster a supportive environment, reduce stigma, and empower individuals to prioritize their mental well-being.
Project Overview
-
Part I: Black Montreal Speaks
In this first segment, we call for members of the Black community of Tiohtià:ke (Montreal) to conduct authentic interviews with Black individuals. Our role will be to engage participants in self-reflection through thought-provoking questions and prompts. This first part aims to create a discussion around different mental health subjects, foster empathy, reduce stigma, encourage others and build a supportive community.
-
Part II: Experts in Conversation
In this second segment, we will engage mental health care practitioners, professionals, and experts in insightful interviews. These experts will offer valuable insights, debunk myths, and provide practical guidance based on the recurring themes identified in Part 1. The goal of this second part is to equip the Black community in Montreal with knowledge, information, and tools to promote their mental well-being.
-
Part III: Bridging the Gap
In this third and final segment, we will facilitate a two-way conversation between mental health care practitioners and community members. This part aims to bridge the gap between the community and mental health professionals, encouraging a deeper understanding of Black mental health experiences. By fostering collaboration, we seek to cultivate an environment where participants can learn, grow, and build a stronger community together.
