Land Acknowledgement
The Black Healing Centre acknowledges that the sacred land in which we operate is situated upon the traditional territories of the unceded traditional lands of the the Haudenosaunee and the KanienΚΌkehΓ‘κka peoples in here in Tioβtia:ke also known as βMontrealβ. Land acknowledgements are a way of honoring and expressing gratitude to those who were and still are the traditional stewards of the land, while being mindful of the ongoing influence of colonial behaviors and belief systems. We would like to thank the First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples across Turtle Island for stewarding and tending to these lands for generations. We pay great respect to the elders, both past, present, and future. We acknowledge that as displaced peoples, we occupy and participate in the exploitation of land that is not ours.
We would also like to acknowledge and honor the enslaved people who built the wealth and foundation of this city and country.
Despite the ongoing violence inflicted on Indigenous peoples and Black Canadians, the Black Healing Centre is grateful for the care and contributions made to the land by Indigenous land and water defenders and Black food growers and farmers. We believe that advancing Indigenous sovereignty is deeply and inextricably linked to Black liberation and we remain committed to advancing both.
The Black Healing Centre recognizes and supports the call to action from the Final Report of the National Inquiry Into Missing And Murdered Indigenous Women And Girls , the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. We also support βLANDBACKβ and Indigenous Sovereignty.
