Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
BLACK WOMEN’S GRIEF AND LOSS GROUP — FALL 2022 PROGRAM
What:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, time-limited, problem-focused and goal oriented form of psychotherapy or "talk therapy". It focuses on the here-and-now—on the problems that come up in day-to-day life. It is based on the idea that our thoughts are behind what we feel, and how we respond to certain situations.
According to CBT, it is not an experience or situation that makes us feel a certain way, but rather, it’s our interpretation of the situation (or the story we tell ourselves) that leads to our emotions, behaviours and physical responses.
CBT helps people learn to identify, question and change how their thoughts, attitudes and beliefs relate to the emotional and behavioural reactions that cause them difficulty. It invites people to examine their thoughts and behaviours in order to arrive at more helpful, balanced and flexible thinking.
The Fall 2022 CBT group will focus on Grief and Loss. The participants will be guided through a 12 week program to help them learn the skills they need to heal and grow from the grief and loss that they are experiencing.
